May 27, 2018

Express Global Logistics Pvt Ltd, (EXG) India, member to the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC) is a project specialist company established in 1946 with headquarters in Mumbai. EXG recently handled 8 heavy transformers and reactors with accessories for a large Indian power & energy company’s esteemed Power Substation Project, from Mumbai Port to Ziguinchor site via Dakar Port in Senegal.

The shipment contained a total of 8 heavy items with 4 units of 55 tons each and 4 units of 48 tons each, which were shipped in 2 lots from Mumbai Port. The destination site, which was 900 km away from Dakar Port, was a challenging road operation due to the height of the pieces. At certain points the overhead cables were temporarily removed to provide smooth passage. This was done in conjunction with the Senegalese road authorities and the State Electricity department.

Many challenges where faced during the entire operation. Since this was all anticipated, a route survey and site survey was done prior to shipping the cargo from Mumbai Port. A senior person was also flown from Mumbai to coordinate on the complex operation from arrival at Dakar port, ensuring timely documentation, Port operations, loading the cargo from mafi onto low bed trailers, organising escort for the cargo delivery and offloading it on foundation. The cargo was delivered in Senegal site on time and offloaded near foundation in good condition.

A project team member at Express Global Logistics said “We are furthermore handling a total of 50 containers (20' & 40') carrying the accessories of these heavy units from Nhava Sheva to Dakar"
